I'm a day late for Friday Favourites. Which I feel like is basically my whole life these days...perpetually late for the important stuff (thank you anxiety), and early for the shit that doesn't matter. Well, let's get right into it. My week was BUSY AF but I did manage to squeeze in a few moments that brought me joy! Here's my take on Friday Faves...things that made me happy this week: It was Family Day here on Monday in Ontario (stat holiday). We spent the weekend filled with family gatherings, friend visits, dinners, movies, etc. So by Monday, we were all tapped out. The day was a much-needed pyjama and chill day for all of us. Those days are my favourite. Saturday night fun with the hubby I had to go to the office on Tuesday for my in-person work day. It was nice to see everyone but I was tired by the end. I don't think I'll ever get used to so much socializing again...how did I do it five days a week pre-pandemic?? I'll never know! In-office obligatory
Did you know that Rosacea affects over 3 million Canadians and nearly 16 million Americans? For a while, I literally thought I was the only one. I've dealt with Rosacea my whole life, but up until 2 years ago, I had no idea it was Rosacea. It was after pushing my doctor to send me to a dermatologist when I was finally "diagnosed," and my journey to find the best products for skincare began.
I can't say I've tried hundreds of products because, honestly, I was too nervous about making my skin worse. But what I did do, was pour myself into the Vortex of Google to find recommendations for super sensitive and rosacea-prone skin. My stipulations were: the products had to be light on the chemicals or even better, plant or essential oil-based. And most importantly, they had to have some kind of anti-ageing component because my tired old ass is almost 40, and my skin needs all the help it can get at this point!
Here are a few things I've picked up recently that really seem to work on my skin, and I'm convinced my wrinkles are diminishing bit by bit.
Pearlessence Anti-Aging Eye Serum. Just a quick Google search of the product will find yourself arms deep into an array of beauty reviews, all raving at this product. I found it at HomeSense around Christmas (thank you "Santa" for the best stocking stuffer ever!). I think it was only around $10 (deeply discounted from what you can find on Amazon), and I am in love with it. My aunt, who is an esthetician, has always told me that when you find an excellent skincare product, a little really goes a long way. And I find this serum rings true to that. I dab just a small drop around my eyes and lids in the morning and at night. The box says you can use it all over, but with my super sensitive cheeks, I've been too chicken to try it anywhere other than my eye area.
Rosehip Oil. My next Rosacea find (again at HomeSense because I'm legit obsessed with that place) were these two face oils with Rosehip oil. Read this review of the Advanced Clinicals Rosehip Oil...it will change your mind about "oils" for your face and will make you a believer. Her results were amazing. I haven't been able to find the oil anywhere else (and HomeSense is sold out), but I did find the other brand Sukin, and it works just as well. It's a little bit thicker, so I use much less of it, but it works well. My first love, though, will always be the Advanced Clinicals Rosehip Oil!
Aveeno Moisturizer. I read that you can layer your facial oils and serums under your moisturizer. So obviously, that's what I do. I read great reviews about Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 for Sensitive Skin. Bonus: it comes equipped with SPF 30. It's mineral based and goes on well, my only complaint is the scent. It smells perfumy. And while it didn't make me skin have any flare ups, it also didn't calm the redness either. I've been using it for months, and it definitely has helped keep my skin hydrated and protected from the sun.
