The First Time is Always the Hardest

September 5: A few hours ago, anxious as heck, I sat in the parking lot at my local gym, waiting. On a whim I signed up for a membership last week with some friends and tonight was my first time visiting said gym. We were taking a 30 minute #HIIT class and while I was excited to try it, I was crippled with fear and anxiety. I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been. My belly gets in the way of everything. I’m not bendy in any way. Like at all! And, I have hip issues. I hate being watched.  My anxiety made me get to the gym 40 minutes early. Scared I’d be late. Scared to show up after the class started. Everyone looking at me. So I sat in the car waiting. Fretting. Beating myself up for letting myself “go” all these years. If I had stayed in shape, I wouldn’t be scared I’d throw up in front of everyone. I fretted until the very last minute before the class started. But knowing I had a friend waiting and counting on me made me move my butt out of that car. Inside the gym, I swipe my pass and I can

Costco Fashion Finds: Is That Even a Thing?

Did I mention I'm not really a selfie taking pro yet?

When I was a kid, I used to HATE getting dragged to Costco. No idea why. I just hated going. I was also ultra mortified if my parents even THOUGHT about buying my clothes there. Sooo uncool mom. So uncool.

Now, fast forward like 100 years later, I'm OBSESSED with Costco. I follow every "Costco Find" Instagram account and am like a top commenter/over sharer in my local Costco finds Facebook group.

Last Friday night, I was psyched. My hubby took the kids tobogganing and I, decked out with a mask and hand sanitizer went to Costco to pick up groceries for the week. I prewarned my husband not to look at any online banking or credit card statements later that night. I was a mom on the loose. We are under strict COVID-19 lockdown measures and I hadn't left the house in weeks. My mission was simple. I was going to spend as much time looking at every single item in that store...even if it killed me. And even if I didn't need said items.

Look don't judge me. YOU DON'T KNOW!!! Every store is closed. No Winners. No Home Sense. No DSW. No Sephora or MAC, or .... no MALLS!!!!! All I had in my life were the staples: the grocery store, Walmart, and the LCBO. I needed to get the hell out of this house. Costco was my ticket. And baby...I cashed that sucker in so hard.

I walked every aisle. I gazed at the pots and pans, examined every towel, and cried a little at the thought of no more taste testing stations (I totally could have gotten a free dinner out of this trip). I had a great time.

I can't pretend I saved so much money (I may have passed out when I saw the total...just kidding) or bought some really amazingly tasty treats (my groceries were pretty basic that day) but I did pick up a few sweaters and leggings for myself and sweaters for the kids. All I want are comfy clothes that look cute but are loose and amazing, and won't break the bank, and these fashion finds definitely delivered on that front. Everything was between $12.99 and $14.99. I didn't take any pics of the leggings. I mean, they're black, made of cotton, have a comfy waistband and came folded in a package of two for $12.99. Does it get more tragic than that? If only my 12 year old self could see me now!

Here's a peek at the two sweaters I bought though...both from Buffalo Jeans...both super soft, lose, covers my mom butt, and looks good with those cotton leggings I splurged on. HA!

Do you have Costco weakness? How do you get out of there without spending $300+? Is that even a thing? If so...please share your secrets!

  1. OMG, Jen, you are hilarious! That was really fun to read! All I can say is that I totally relate. Every once every few months or so when I realized I haven't even stepped outside of my house for weeks, I seize any opportunity to go browse the thrift stores (I don't have a Costco near me). Those sweatshirts are super cute and I am sure the leggings cannot be all that tragic! Thanks for linking up with me and making me laugh!

  2. We have Bj's near us (and not Costco) but I did buy myself some velvet leggings when we went in December and with our family of 3 we rarely get out with less than $300 worth of food and stuff.

  3. I had no idea that Costco Finds was a thing but I def going to find a few IG accounts to follow. Last year after our area's first lockdown, the non-essentials areas of the stores that were blocked off in the those that were allowed to be opened. Not much is sadder than seeing the center area of Costco walled off by pallets and stacks of detergent, soda, and assorted automotive products. And we never get out of Costco without spending at least $200.
